In this chapter, Arjuna reveals his mind by asking questions. Lord Krishna describes although actions bind one to the material world, however, it is not possible to stay without action. Everyone must engage in some sort of activity in this material world. Certainly, one liberates from binding action when it is done for the satisfaction of the Supreme Lord. Moreover, such action is without selfish motives. Thus one can attain transcendental knowledge of the self and the Supreme by becoming free from binding karma.

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 - Transcendental Knowledge

In this chapter, Lord highlights about the process of receiving knowledge and the history of Gita. Further, he also reveals about his original eternal form and reason for his periodic descent. Lord Krishna describes that everyone is different in submission to Krishna. They either surrender directly to Him or indirectly through His energies. Similarly, they perform different types of sacrifices according to the level of their surrender. Transcendental knowledge is the perfect knowledge of the self and ones relationship with the Supreme. Such transcendental knowledge reveals itself only through a bona-fide spiritual master who comes in disciplic succession.
